Interesting Facts About the Cheetah and More

!±8± Interesting Facts About the Cheetah and More

Cheetahs have been known to be around since the time that Ancient Egypt was ruled by Pharaohs. A Pharaoh was an Egyptian Leader, which many believed were half-man and half-god. One well-known Pharaoh was Queen Cleopatra. She was the last Pharaoh to rule Egypt. Cheetahs were kept as close companions to these Pharaohs because Egyptians believed that this elegant feline would carry the Pharaohs spirit to the after life. Statues and paintings on royal tombs were found to have symbols of this beautiful and graceful cat. Akbar the Great, the most successful Mughal Emperor of India, was said to have a strong liking for the Cheetah. He kept over 1,000 during his 49 year Reign. The Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, also used these beautiful animals as a symbol of royalty and for hunting.

Cheetahs are often mistaken with the Leopard because from afar, their spots and fur color look just about the same. Take a closer look at the two and you will see that they are both very different. Leopards do not have solid spots. The spots on a Leopard are in a rosette pattern, which has a brown center and a darker outer ring. Leopards are more muscular and have shorter legs. The Cheetah has long legs, a small head and a slender body. Also, the leopards claws are retractable. Although the Cheetahs claws appear to be fully retractable, they are not and that is why these animals are considered to have semi-retractable claws. The Fishing Cat, Flat-Headed cat and the Iriomote Cat are known to have semi-retractable claws as well.

Cheetahs are the fastest land mammals in the world. They are definitely built for speed! Their long, powerful legs can go from 0 to 60 miles, in just seconds. The semi-retractable claws offer extra grip and control. Their huge lungs, heart and nostrils helps intake a lot of oxygen and exhale plenty of carbon dioxide. Whenever in fast pursuits, their long tails helps them keep in balance and make sharp turns. They have flexible spines that works almost like an elastic and helps them to increase speed. Just like a football player would use greasy eye black under their eyes to reduce the sun's glare, the Cheetah also has distinctive long black lines running down from the eyes to the mouth, which helps reduce the sun's glare as well and helps keep the animal focused on its prey.

What to Do With Your Old Cast Iron Bathtubs

!±8± What to Do With Your Old Cast Iron Bathtubs

Cast iron bathtubs are highly sought after objects. They are durable, they are versatile and they can add character and class to just about any bathroom. The problem is that while they can last decades or even longer, the bathrooms that surround them sometimes need repairs or renovations and working around a cast iron bathtub or working the iron bath tubs into the renovation plans can be a challenge-especially if you want to install a newer bathtub or spa! Of course, you don't just want to throw out the bath tub, so what do you do? You recycle it!

There are dozens if not hundreds or thousands of ways to recycle your old cast iron bathtubs. The trick is figuring out which idea works best for your family. Before you set to work digging a big hole in the backyard because you want to turn the tub into a coy pond, it is a good idea to do your research. Decide what you want to do with your bath tub and then figure out how to do it before you start tearing apart your bathtub or cutting into the tub itself. Figure out and draw up complete plans for your project before you attack the plumbing in your bathroom and, if you can, remove the bathtub as a single piece. If you cut into the tub to make the job easier, you might find that you have to re-think your entire project!

Here are just a few of the creative ways people have recycled their old iron bathtubs:

Planters or Gardens

Some people use iron bathtubs to grow potatoes. Others turn them into decorative herb gardens. Still others choose to use the tubs to grow flowers. One hint: This type of planter works better outdoors because of the sheer amount of dirt and earth that will be needed to fill the tub.

Ponds or Tanks

With the proper cleaning and the plugging of the drain hole, cast iron bathtubs can be turned into small backyard ponds or creatively placed fish tanks. The nice thing about using a cast iron tub as a backyard pond or tank is that you do not have to submerge the tub completely into the earth-you can leave some of it exposed as decoration!

Fountains and Decorations

If you are good with plumbing and water features, a  iron tub can make a great basin for a fountain-a fountain that will work just as well indoors as out. Some people put statues into their cast iron bathtubs to turn them into decorative pieces for the home or yard.

Furniture!

With some creative cutting and welding, you can turn old bathtubs into loveseats, chairs or even accent tables! The movie Breakfast at Tiffanys has a famous cast iron tub turned furniture piece.

Storage

Why not put your old  iron tubs in your front hallways to serve as a resting place for umbrellas, boots or even coats and bags? Why not soften the edges and use the cast iron bathtub to serve as a toy box? Better yet, why not install some removable upholstery that turns the tub into a seating and storage combination? The possibilities are endless!

"Krakow Sightseeing" Souter's photos about Krakow, Poland (krakko sightseeing by own)

Preview of Souter'sblog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Krakow, Poland Entry Title: "Krakow Sightseeing" Entry: "21st June Krakow Sightseeing Light rain periods 14 degrees We caught the bus to what we thought was the Central Plaza (Plac Centrally) but it wasn't, so ended up going a little further than was necessary and saw a bit more of Krakow. We caught the bus back to where we actually wanted to be to explore the Old Town and the Main Market Square. Krakow has a pleasant, relaxed feel, with some lovely streets and buildings, lots of churches, parks and cafes. It's Sunday so there are lots of people about enjoying the day. The rain held off for most of our day but settled into a fine drizzle by the end. We walked through the park to the Central Square and climbed the Clock Tower for a view of the town and St Mary's Church (Basilica). There's a flea/antique market on in the square today as well as horse drawn coaches for the tourists. We spent some time wandering through the lovely old building of the Central Market (Cloth Hall -Sukiennice) which had some nice shops selling craft, baltic amber jewellery and souvenirs. After a nice lunch in one of the many cafes, we headed through the Old Town to the Royal Castle, where we explored the castle grounds and Wawel Cathedral. From the castle area we headed in the Old Jewish suburb of Kazimierz which was ...
